Loureiro (Adolfo)
Portuguese engineer sent to Madeira in 1898 to study applying the 1892 water regime, who wrote on the archipelago and its ports.
This distinguished engineer came to Madeira in 1898, sent by the central government to study how the water regime created for the mainland of the Kingdom (reino, i.e. mainland Portugal) by the decree of 1 December 1892 might be adapted to this archipelago. He spent several months on the island and presented the results of his work to the Government in a lengthy report. In Lisbon, at the Association of Civil Engineers (Associação dos Engenheiros Civis), he gave an interesting lecture on the Madeiran archipelago, which is published under the title Breves Noticias sobre os archipelagos da Madeira, dos Açores, de Cabo Verde e das Canárias. In his vast work entitled Os Portos Maritimos de Portugal, he devotes the 5th volume to the ports of Madeira. The 5th volume of the atlases that complete the work contains 16 plates, all relating to this archipelago.
The engineer Adolfo Loureiro died in Lisbon on 23 November 1911.
