Leme (João da Câmara)
Funchal-born doorkeeper of the Civil Government (b. 1865) who published a book of poems, 'Amor e Pátria' (1887), denounced in the press as plagiarism.
He was born in Funchal in 1865 and held the post of doorkeeper of the civil government building (Governo Civil). In 1887 he published in this city a volume of poems of 83 pp., entitled Amor e Pátria. When it appeared, it was claimed in the press that the pamphlet was an outright plagiarism, pilfered from various Portuguese poets, notably Almeida Garrett.
