This eminent French physician, a well-known specialist in lung diseases, was in Madeira in September and October 1881. He came expressly to study our climate from a therapeutic point of view, and concluded that the superiority of this island’s climate over that of other health resorts was beyond dispute. In his notable work Curabilité et traitement de la phthisie pulmonaire he deals at length with Madeira as a winter resort for the treatment of lung diseases. These pages, which are of the greatest importance given the undisputed authority of the name that signs them, should be read and weighed by all who wish to concern themselves with the climate of this archipelago.
