Jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia)
Original title: Jacarandá (Jacaranda mimosifolia)
The jacaranda, an ornamental tree grown in Funchal's gardens and avenues, prized for its blue spring flowers but considered poor as a shade tree.
A tree of the family Bignoniaceae, grown in the quintas, avenues and gardens of Funchal. It flowers in spring, when its blue flowers, gathered in panicles, make a lovely effect. It remains bare or sparsely leaved until the beginning of summer, which makes it little valued as a shade tree and therefore unsuitable for lining streets and public squares, at least in our climate.
