Military mutinies

Original title: Insubordinações Militares

Lists the three military mutinies known to have occurred on Madeira, in 1829, 1852 and 1870, including one in which Lieutenant Lapierre was killed.

We know only of the following mutinies to have occurred on the island of Madeira: that of July 1829, in the 13th Infantry Regiment (regimento de infantaria n.º 13), because an officer from outside the unit had been appointed acting commander; that of 30 July 1852, in the 6th Caçadores (Portuguese light infantry) Battalion (batalhão de caçadores n.º 6), during which Lieutenant Lapierre was killed; and that of 2 August 1870, in the 5th Caçadores Battalion (batalhão de caçadores n.º 5), following an inspection of weapons.
