Guarnição de jardim
'Guarnição de jardim' is the Madeiran name for several Verbena species, chiefly V. bonariensis. This species is naturalised in Funchal and is used as a folk tonic.
Madeirans give this name to several species of the genus Verbena, the commonest of which is V. bonariensis, fully naturalised in various parts of Funchal. This species is also known by the names jarvão (popular name for vervain) or urgebão and, like V. officinalis, is regarded by country people as a stimulant and tonic. It has lilac flowers arranged in spikes and very rough, incised-serrate leaves.
