Notes the Public Works Directorate in Funchal, established after the creation of the Ministry of Public Works in 1852, its predecessor the Civil Engineering Archive, and its later replacement by the technical department of the District General Junta.

A Public Works Directorate existed in Funchal from the creation of the Ministry of Public Works in 1852. Before that there was a department (repartição) here called the Civil Engineering Archive, run by officers of the Royal Corps of Engineers. These services are today handled by the technical department of the District General Council (Junta Geral do Distrito).
