Coasts

Original title: Costas

Explains how the mountain range running east to west across Madeira divides the island into the north coast (Costa do Norte) and the south coast (Costa do Sul), with a rugged interior between them.

The mountain range which, with lofty summits and without a break, runs the length of Madeira from east to west, clearly divides the northern coast, better known as the north coast (Costa do Norte), from the southern coast, commonly called the Costa do Sul. Between these two coasts lies the interior, an extremely mountainous region of very broken terrain, with the exception of the plateau of the Paul da Serra.
