Clarke (James)

An English physician who wrote on Madeira's climate in a work on climate and chronic disease (1830), using data from doctors on the island without visiting it.

He dealt with the climate of Madeira in his work entitled The Influence of Climate in the prevention and cure of chronic Diseases, more particulary of the Chest and Digestive Organs, London, 2nd edition, 1830.

Clarke never visited Madeira, but the English physicians Heineken and Renton supplied him with the information and data he needed to write the chapter of that work devoted to the climate of this island.
