Cantin
Original title: Cantim
Cape Cantim on the Moroccan coast, the African point at Madeira's latitude and closest to the archipelago, about 350 miles away.
Cape Cantin lies on the coast of Morocco, between two well-known points on the littoral: Mazagan to the north and Mogadouro to the south. It is roughly equidistant from these two coastal towns, about 60 miles from each. This is the point of the African continent whose latitude corresponds most closely to that of the island of Madeira. Cape Cantin lies at 32 33’ N and bears some 47 miles SW. ¼ S. of Cape Blanc. It rises steeply to 60 metres above the sea, and on its summit stands a small chapel. It is also the point on the African coast nearest to our archipelago, from which it is about 350 miles distant.
