Jorge da Câmara, nicknamed 'the Poet', was appointed governor-general of the Madeira archipelago in 1614.
He was known as ‘the Poet’, but we do not know whether he actually wrote poetry. He was appointed governor-general of this archipelago on 18 January 1614 and took up the post on 17 December of the same year.
