Dr Burgess wrote an article denying the value of Madeira's climate for lung disease without visiting the island, prompting replies from J. Mackenzie Bloxam.
He wrote an article in the Association Medical Journal in which, without ever having visited Madeira, he sought to deny the effectiveness of the island’s climate in treating lung diseases. James Mackenzie Bloxam replied to this article in two pamphlets, written as letters addressed to Dr Lund.
