An old, now nearly extinct Madeiran surname descended from Mem Moniz, with its original seat in Ataíde, diocese of Porto.
This was an old surname in Madeira, but today it seems to us extinct or nearly extinct. It descended from Mem Moniz, who was the son of Egas Moniz. The original manor house of this family was in the parish (freguesia) of Ataíde, in the diocese of Porto.
