Albuquerque (Major Joaquim Mousinho de)
Records the brief visit to Funchal in December 1897 of Major Joaquim Mousinho de Albuquerque, returning from Mozambique where he had been royal commissioner, and the festive reception given him.
He arrived in Funchal on 7 December 1897 from Mozambique, where he had served as royal commissioner, and was given a splendid reception here. In his honour there was a dinner at the São Lourenço Palace (‘St Lawrence’), music and illuminations in the Jardim Municipal (‘municipal garden’), and a marche aux flambeaux organised by the students. He left for Lisbon on 12 December.
