Albuquerque (João Saldanha de)
João Saldanha de Albuquerque was governor and captain-general of Madeira from 1672, whose conduct was investigated by a crown judge after accusations to Lisbon.
In July 1672 he was appointed governor and captain-general (capitão-general, military governor of Madeira) of this archipelago, and took office on 20 October of the same year. Following accusations made to the government in mainland Portugal, the high court judge (desembargador) Manuel Soares Dourado came to Madeira to investigate his conduct.
